creative explorations through life

Game, set, match! Every Friday Coudal Partners, hosts a live weekly match of layer tennis.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with layer tennis, it’s a design game where two elite designers are pitted against each other in a design-off. Each designer has an allotted amount of time to return his serve, in Coudal’s matches it’s 15 minutes. They are given a topic by a referee, and must keep elements of the last serve within their design. At the end of 10 serves a winner is declared by a forum of spectators.

This week’s topic was of course Halloween! The opponents, Jason Santa Maria and Brian Taylor. The competition was fierce, the topic one both opponents know and love. The match was narrated by freelance writer Matthew Baldwin, who described the blow by blow action in gripping detail. By the end of the match we had been horrified by the best, with images of blood, flies, clowns and blood-sucking zombambis. Declaring a winner was difficult for the onlookers, but finally Jason was declared the ultimate layer slasher.

For photos of the gore and more information on the players and narrator check out the full match.

Terralever has recently finished a flash application addition for Couture Book that allows the user to personally design they’re own one off luxurious photo book. The books feature hand-bound stitching as well as a slue of personalized options such as torn page edges and photo framing. These books are a great way to showcase personal photography, special moments in your life, or as family keepsakes.

The flash appilcation we’ve created allows the user to pick cover options, upload photos, select personalized options, review their book and then purchase. The usability of the application makes this so easy anyone could create they’re own personalized photo book. Also, the page display for the review of your book includes turning and shadows to make you feel as if you’re really flipping through your creation, so you know what you’re getting before you buy.

Couture Book and some of the application highlights was recently showcased on Fox 10, check out the video clip. After you see it, go pull those photos out from under the bed or out of the closet and make your very own Couture Book. :)

I was surfing some of my more design-related RSS feeds when I came across a very interesting artistic work featured on Quipsologies.

Tim Gaudreau has made a huge photo collage out of all the trash he’s thrown away in the last year to make a statement regarding America’s waste and energy consumption. After 365 days of photographing everything he threw out, he amassed over 5,000 photos of his own trash.

Check out his website to learn more about this interesting artistic expression of America’s consumption. Perhaps we can all take something away from this personal experiment and use less.

I have been seeing the WaitLess Sprint commercials on tv lately, I figured it was just another bad commercial gimmick like the Alltel’s commercials Man Cave. But honestly, the way Sprint has married their TV commercials with the web is genius! Waitless.org is all about spending less time doing the boring things in life, to spend MORE time doing what you want to do. The videos are hilarious and they’re a great sample of what viral media should be. Check it out and have a laugh at all the awesome ways you too can save time and wait less!
